Artword: Home

Somehow I missed looking at the Artword site last week and wouldn't you know it, the theme was my entry! The horror! I whipped this up a minute ago, I am supposed to be cooking for a bunch of people who are coming for football at 1:00...mama mia...

It's about 12" tall, recycled Cheerios box painted with Golden acrylics and I stenciled on some modeling paste for the swirls.. pen, artist crayon and justjohanna flower. I am so embarassed this is so late!

Artword- Grunge

Head on over to the Artword blog this week and take a stab at the "Grunge" challenge. It's a fun genre! For this project, I used alcohol ink on glossy cardstock (there is a lot of gold mixative in there), justjohanna images, dictionary pages, dymo labels and black pen. I like how this one turned out!

Thank you for coming by today! See you tomorrow...

ice ice, baby

This week's artword is CUBE. I originally shot butter, but then realized I am probably the only one who refers to a stick of butter as a "cube"..you all probably call it a stick.

Three Cup Chicklet

This week’s Artword is “center”. For this project, I used an alcohol ink background and justjohanna images. This project was inspired by the street game “Three Card Monte” and the “Shell Game”, both lovely party games. You should set up a table at your next gathering!

Until tomorrow!

She’s a BRICK houuussee…

…Mighty mighty..just letin’ it all hang out…

Inside my head: So, this week’s artword is “figure”. When I read the announcement, I immediately break out into “Brickhouse” by the Commodores and start glancing through my stamp wall. Just when I was ready to throw in the towel and pass this week, I sing “thirty-six twenty four thirty six” and realize those are my favorite bird’s measurements too! HA! Belle it is.

Alcohol ink background with pearl mixative featuring the lyrics to the song “Brick house” and justjohanna’s “Belle”. I especially love the pearl spotlight behind Belle.

As always, thank you very much for stopping by today!

Artword: Eyes

page five

I am glad I found the Artword blog. I had a stressful day yesterday and it was nice to be able to sit down and interpret the artword. This week’s artword is eyes. I thought that most of the entries would probably focus on peepers in general, so I decided to shake it up a bit and focus on what the eyes do. (No pun intended.) They watch.

Vintage post cards with beady eyes, vintage Italian flash card, birds with beady eyes, a little gold pen, some stitching, metallic paper and acetate. Shazam; page five of my 8x8 art book. Stamped images: justjohanna rubber stamps.

There is a lot of “prep” work going on behind the scenes at justjohanna rubber stamps. I am looking forward to the start of the new Design Team term!

On a side note….our realtor called me today. He mentioned that someone wants to show our house tonight, but they said the buyers didn’t mind if we didn’t leave the house. What the hell do they think this is? A house party? Crimany sakes….I’m heading for the hills tonight. Be back tomorrow.

Oh! I almost forgot… Wednesday Stamper this week is “Turquoise”. I love turquoise! I’ve got some beautiful (if I do say so myself) turquoise hand painted background paper drying…hopefully I’ll be able to post a doozy of a turquoise project on Friday for you to see.

Ciao!

May Day!

I hope these flowers brighten your May Day!

My friend pointed flowers like these out to me on etsy the other day. I think they are a great idea for packages or wrapped into some of your other altered projects (perhaps on a spiral notebook instead of all that furry fiber stuff?)

To make the flowers, I used 24 gauge wire with fluorite, glass and sterling silver beads. Assembly is easy. Cut varying circles out of varying papers. I used tissue, vintage history about Genghis Khan and shimmery water color paper I made using Ph Martin paints. Oh, the best part? Look closely, I worked in my favorite stamps from justjohanna rubber stamps too!

This also fits this week’s Artword: Botanical. Have not checked out Artword yet? It’s an awesome site, not as overwhelming as Illustration Friday. Go take a look! There is a new word every Sunday.

Artword: Woman

I'm bringing Sexy Back...

Time to revisit a Luggage classic today. This weeks's artword is "woman". Since I work mainly in birds, I could only think of one project. "Belle on Couch". She screams sexy!

I love cake.

Artword: Dinner

I don’t have an interesting story to go with this week’s entry; but I can tell you that if there is cake around, it would not be uncommon for me to eat it for dinner. Not dessert. I said dinner.

6x6 canvas. I used Distress Ink to color the background paper for the cupcakes and color wash to color the canvas. To add some texture to the canvas, I covered it with painters tape and gesso. Once dry, I added the text. Pink pen highlights the Artword; and to finish, I covered all of the frosting with 3D crystal lacquer.

All images: justjohanna rubber stamps.

Shipwrecked!

Artword: Chair

Somewhere in my imagination, there are some birds quietly afloat on a beautifully upholstered chaise lounge waiting to be rescued.

I covered this 3x5 canvas board with paper I hand painted with Dr. Ph Martin ink. To obscure the color a bit, I washed a little Gesso over it and then attached the chaise. The birds are stamped onto a page from a vintage French Saint directory and covered in 3d Crystal lacquer. The last step was to age the corners a tad using Ranger Distress Ink in Peeled Paint and Broken China.

Oh… the birds do get rescued. They always do.
